the UWEA way

UWEA's vision is to cultivate and nurture a safe, trusted, respectful, and inclusive environment where the rights and dignity of women, girls, and the people of the communities we serve are recognized, promoted, protected, and feel empowered to speak up for themselves. Leading to appropriate action and prevention with zero tolerance against violence and sexual wrongdoing.

We fight against sexual exploitation, abuse, and sexual harassment,

as it is a violation of basic human rights and against our core values.

Meet our founder, Zie Mirabel Atanga

I am the Founder and President of UWEA (Underprivileged Women Empowerment Association) a Nonprofit NGO founded in 2013. As a social activist, I combat violence against Women and Girls and create sustainable impact through workshops in ESD Self-Defense Instruction, Sustainable Agriculture Practices, and Economic Empowerment through Small Business Development workshops. I am a certified Women's Level 2 Self-defense Instructor for Cameroon and hold a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. I am passionate about social change and believe in enabling people to define and stand up for their beliefs and advocating for human rights while bridging connections across cultural, political, and religious differences through interpersonal communication and building community relationships. I actively advocate for the women and girls in my community to know their rights and how to defend themselves. Enabling them to define and stand up for their beliefs, advocating for human rights while bridging connections across cultural, political, and religious differences through interpersonal skills and building community relationships.

UWEA envisions a world where movements for gender justice can create opportunity and equality for women and children who are the most vulnerable and at-risk.
