Sustainable Agriculture

Sustainable agricultural practices enable more efficient use of natural resources, mitigate the impact of agriculture on the environment, and strengthen the capacity for adaptation to climate change and climate variability. Sustainable practices support ecological, human, and economic health and vitality. Sustainability presumes that resources are finite, and should be used conservatively and wisely with a view to long-term priorities and consequences of the ways in which resources are used.

Soil

UWEA teaches women and young girls in local communities modern methods of Agriculture using organic manure to protect and prevent previously damaged soil with chemicals. Bush farming has been a great threat to human life and the soil. These methods help to increase soil fertility and increase high yields.

Water

Water is life as well as it brings life to Agriculture. Having 2 farming seasons in Cameroon, during the rainy season, rain is our source of water while during the dry season, we tap water from small streams, and dig small wells in the farm to help water our plants.

Food

We cultivate food crops in our local communities for sale and consumption, maize, beans, cassava, sweet potatoes, huckleberry, and cabbage. We are also very engaged in Beekeeping farming and tree planting to protect the environment and the ozone layer. We use both local and modern tools for sustainable agriculture.

Beekeeping

If it weren't for bee pollination, our ecosystem wouldn't be able to survive. Bees are essential for preserving and protecting ecological balance and biodiversity in nature, both for plants and animals. Honey bees, in particular, thrive on feeding off a diverse variety of plants.
